2014 District Contest

The Lakelanders Barbershop Chorus had a respectable performance and a score of 62.5 at the Fall District Contest of the Land ‘O’ Lakes District in Rochester, Minnesota on October 25th. Although we had just 19 men on stage, we put out a good sound, rang our chords and had a resounding response from the audience.

Why compete?

Competition is an important and enjoyable part of the barbershop world that helps keep us focused on raising the bar of performing excellence. We come together in a spirit of lighthearted contest, to see who's really got top form. We root for each other, cheer each other on, and once the medals have been handed out, we join together at different Afterglow locations to sing and enjoy each others' company!

Competition Criteria

For every competition level, there sits a panel of judges who score the chorus' and quartets in three categories: Music, Presentation and Singing. In the months prior to competition, we focus much of our rehearsal time on our contest songs. We also employ the skills of professional coaches to help us find ways to improve our performance in each of the three categories. In addition to honing in on our performance, coaching helps us to just become more skilled in the craft of barbershop singing.
